The gods of the magical world are as complicated and multifaceted as any mortal. Not much is known of their origin, or indeed even their day-to-day conduct, but what is known is their interest in and ablity to easily watch over their domains, and the mortal world, from their plane, often referred to as simply Pantheon. The deities' lives are complex, teeming with immortal drama, and often heavily dependent on the actions of mortals. There is a belief among deities that lack of belief by any mortals whatsoever will result in a god ‘dying,’ or being completely snuffed out of existence. This has not been definitively proven, but has generally been accepted into common belief by scholars.
In the current age, outright worship of most gods is not exceedingly common, though older magic families often celebrate ancient festivals and customs in much the same way the average Western mortal celebrates Christmas or Easter—with more regard for tradition than for religion’s sake. Magical communities will still often host ceremonies, decorate for festivals, and invoke the names of deities in moments of joy or frustration. It is not uncommon for ‘agnostic’ magic individuals to indulge in a prayer for the deity of their choice when needed, however, like a coin left in a fountain with a wish to the god of luck before a gamble, or a sheet of papyrus burnt over a candle before a test as an offering to the goddess of knowledge. These are regarded more as superstitions these days than belief.
Acolytes for specific deities are not extinct, however. There exists at least one temple in the world for most gods, and more popular or powerful deities often boast multiple intricate abbeys or monuments, popular even amongst nonmagic mortals. Followers of deities often claim that following deities makes their magic stronger, and blessings from deities have been recorded to grant boons like shadow magic or deep knowledge. Some temples, such as the Temple of Rest in Yellowknife, Canada, gather followers of multiple deities with similar domains. Many disused temples have been recorded over time. Stonehenge, located in Wiltshire, England, is believed to once have been a festival celebration ground dedicated to festivals honouring Siv, Sol, and Antia, and as such is one of the oldest known festival grounds on Earth.
HIERARCHY.
There is indeed a hierarchy present within the world of the gods. It is not terribly strict or official, but it is acknowledged and adhered to by most deities, if only loosely. Tesh, for example, is known as the All-Mother, and treated with great reverence and respect by all deities that wish to keep their title, and, though she rarely makes herself known, is mostly accepted to always be present and watching. Deities with more major domains, such as the Astral Trinity (Antia, Sol, and Siv), are also generally regarded as having higher status than deities with smaller, more specific domains, like those of specific crafts or materials.
