DRACONS
Singular: Dracon (DRAY-con)
Plural: Dracons (DRAY-cons)
Dracons are believed to have descended from the first dragons: ancient, massive, godlike reptiles, each guarding a specific elemental deity. These dragons tended to comingle with their elven acolytes, and, as such, descendants were born, half-dragon, half-elf, and unaccepted in either community. The first dracons were described as perhaps more dragon than elf, but in time, as their lineage was diluted further by taking mates both of draconian and elven heritage, dracons became their own species, with their own language, and their own settlements. Modern dracons appear as elves, either with traditional pointed ears or the scaly kind associated with dragons, sharp nails and teeth, and any combination of horns, draconic tails, and wings. Many dracons also have “dragon freckles”: Coloured scales speckled across their skin, and these, as well as wings and tails, are prone to moulting seasons throughout the year, which are typically described as very unpleasant. With modern dracons, it is not often clear exactly which elemental dragon a dracon is descended from, as so much intermingling between different origins has created several new subspecies of dracon, but on occasion a clear ancestry is shown. In any case, most dracons have unique abilities inherited from their parents, including but not limited to fire breathing, fire resistance, underwater breathing, bioluminescent scales, night vision, venomous bites or scales, or flight.
